KEWANEE -- BOMAG Americas has announced it will cease manufacturing operations in Kewanee by the end of 2014.

A company news release issued Wednesday said BOMAG Americas is moving its business to a yet to be determined location in the southern U.S. The release stated the move is designed to "maximize its (BOMAG's) manufacturing efficiencies, maintain competitive product costs and, most importantly, better support our customers."

About 200 people work at BOMAG's 222,000-square-foot factory off U.S. 34 east of Kewanee, according to the Kewanee Economic Development Corp. Asphalt rollers and other road construction equipment that had been built at the plant will be moved or replaced by BOMAG products made in Oklahoma, Germany or China," according to the release.

Three years ago, BOMAG received incentives from the state to consolidate its Illinois and Missouri operations in Kewanee.
