Expunging Your Record 2012
The Rock Island County Branch NAACP will host an Expungement Workshop on Saturday, April, 20, 2013 at the Martin Luther King Community Center from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
"This is the 5th year the RI County NAACP have sponsored the workshop and it is a must attend for persons with past criminal offenses. These convictions have a great impact on whether you can get a job, find housing and obtain education and training" states Ms. Sherwin.
The workshop will assist people with certain arrests and convictions to expunge or seal their records. This is a process that is available to people in Illinois. "We are one of a number of states that have this option for some types of criminal records" according to Liz Sherwin, President of the Rock Island County NAACP. "Expungement allows people with qualifying arrests and convictions to petition the court of their sentencing county to expunge or seal their records" states Christie Fischer, Attorney of the Offices of the State Appellate Defender the presenter.
The workshop provides information about Illinois convictions and arrests only. "Many of the bordering states have different processes or no processes for expungement" according to Ms. Fischer. However attendance at the workshop may assist you in finding out how to obtain information on what is available in your state. "Individual consultations will be provided to you if you bring documents detailing your sentencing" states Ms. Sherwin.
The workshop is open to the public. Persons interested in the workshop should pre-register by Thursday, April 18, 2013 by calling (309) 793-0090.
