For nearly three decades, Orion's Dave Hancock has been a fixture at area prep basketball games, being right in the center of the action in his official's stripes.

Having put in 27 years as a high school basketball referee -- a career that includes two IHSA state tournaments in Peoria and past membership in both the Quad City and Galesburg officials' associations, Hancock is about to see his work in an often-thankless task received some due recognition.

Hancock will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame in a ceremony set for Apr. 27 in Normal. His induction means that his current officiating crew will boast two Hall of Famers; Hancock currently works with 2007 IBCA inductee Marty Flaherty of Andalusia and Collin Dotson of East Moline.
