Velma M. Lambert, 90, of West Liberty, Iowa, formerly of Eliza, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3, from 4-7 p.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Muscatine. Private family services will be held at a later date with burial to follow at Eliza Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Mercy Hospice Center in Iowa City, Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty or the Eliza Community Church in Velma's name. Velma Marie Anderson was born on Feb. 25, 1923, in Eliza, the daughter of Dan and Molly Noble Anderson. On Dec. 22, 1943, Velma was united in marriage to Lytle Lambert in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She received her teaching certificate from Monmouth College. Velma first started teaching country school in Swedona and then spent 30-plus years at the Westmer School District No. 203. She was a member of the Eliza Community Church, Eliza Ladies Aide, DAR and the Retired Teachers Association. Velma enjoyed educating many children, the history of the Eliza community, spending time with her family, helping her husband on the family farm and wintering in Florida.
Velma will be deeply missed by her three children, Frank Lambert and his wife, Joyce, Rock Island, Thomas L. Lambert and his wife, Mary Ann Bramhall-Lambert, Muscatine, and Suzanne Yeast and her husband, Jay, West Liberty; seven grandchildren, Erin Wagner, Alex Lambert, Dylan Bramhall, Maren Askins, Cole Lambert, Heather Pietig and Ross Yeast; three great-grandchildren, Adalynn and Logan Pietig and Ella Bramhall; sister, Shirley Ball, Eliza; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2007; one brother, Martin Anderson; and one sister, Maxine Welch.
