Bettendorf police are looking for a dog that bit a man in the face Sunday afternoon in the 2400 block of Crestview Drive.

The victim was walking his dog when an unattended loose dog ran towards them. Fearing that his dog was going to be attacked, the man got between the two dogs and was bit in the face by the loose dog, causing cuts/punctures to his nose, according to a police news release.

The victim was able to fight off the dog and it ran away. He was treated at Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, and released. His dog was not injured.

The victim told police he had not seen the dog in the neighborhood before. He described it as a short-haired black or brown rottweiler or pit bull mix, about 75 to 80 pounds. He said the dog did not have a collar and it has not been located or identified.

Anyone with information on the dog to verify or confirm that it is up to date on its rabies vaccinations is asked to call the Bettendorf Police Department at 563-344-4015, then press 9.
