Kenneth Hardman Custer, 70, of Pollocksville, N.C., passed away Feb. 27, 2013, at his home.
Cremation has been accorded. Military services with a 21-gun salute were held at 10 a.m. March 5 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Kenneth was born June 10, 1942, in San Diego, Calif., at the Naval Hospital, to Howard K. and Edna Rogers Custer.
He received his education in the Rock Island school system. He joined the Navy when he was 17, retiring from the Navy after holding positions in active status, naval reserve and as a naval recruiter. He also worked at Western Union and Moen Corp. in New Bern, N.C. He enjoyed growing hot peppers and making hot pepper jelly. He loved his cats.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen Nix, Victorsville, Calif., Trena Pitchford, Hollywood, Calif., and April Weaver, Fredricksburg, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ronald "Skip" Pauley, Milan; and 13 grandchildren.
