It's good to be back!!
For those who haven't been regular followers of this column, welcome. It will appear on Thursdays during the racing season and hopefully touch on issues that you're not reading or hearing about elsewhere.
This column is for race fans. It's not a NASCAR column – NASCAR gets plenty of regular coverage in our Sports section, although I may occasionally touch on NASCAR issues.
More likely you are going to read about open wheel racing, sports cars, moto, drag racing and karting – elements of motorsports that don't get the coverage they deserve.
Most of all we are going to talk about the latest news on the LOCAL racing scene – which is extensive. We are blessed in that regard.
So I hope to see you every Thursday – be sure to stop back.
Racing online:One thing I'm really excited to tell you about if you haven't found it already is a new feature on our digital platform – Quad-Cities Online. On this page you will find the latest news from NASCAR (Sprint, Nationwide and Trucks), IndyCar, Formula One and the NHRA updated 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Besides news stories, there are lots of photos and some video. Schedules and results are also posted for the season. There are columns and Tweets from AP Auto Racing Writer Jenna Fryer. Also included are driver standings and at-a-glance looks at upcoming races.
There are also photos and bios on all the drivers.
We are excited to be able to offer you this ongoing racing coverage through qconline.com. To find it, you can go to the SPORTS subhead on the home page and click the Auto Racing link at the top. You can also get there from the Sports landing page, or go straight to http://racing.ap.org/qconline
No matter how you get there, I think you will enjoy the coverage.
Racing Online 2:Also back this year is Race to the Finish, a weekly contest where you compete nationwide to pick NASCAR winners.
Each week you pick the 10 drivers that you think will finish 1st through 10th. Picks must be submitted at least 15 minutes before the race starts. Your best 15 races determine your total score. The contest is sponsored locally by Reynolds Ford. You must be age 18 or older to play. It's just another way to feed your love of racing.
To play, go the Quad-Cities Online home page and click on the Contests link just above the Stock Market update. Then click on the Race To The Finish icon for details. Or you can go directly to qco.autoracing.upickem.net .
Now get on your computer and go racing!
This column appears each Thursday in The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus. Please send items of interest to email@example.com . Racing results should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org .
