Dorothy M. Seys, 95, of rural Coal Valley, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. Father Duane Jack will celebrate. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation for Dorothy will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. Memorials for Dorothy may be directed to the Dorothy Seys Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born on Nov. 30, 1917, in Lee County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Pearl Hughes Carroll. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Seys on July 6, 1940, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She was a partner with her husband, Joe, on the family farm and lived there until her death. Dorothy also worked as a librarian at the Colona Twin Rivers Library. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona, and St. Martha's Altar and Rosary Society. She will be greatly missed by her entire family.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Joann (Bill) Dickey, Orion, Sharon (Jim) Holke, Geneseo, John (Pat) Seys, Coal Valley, Jean (Mark) Sottos, Coal Valley, and Nancy (Roger) Carlson, Osco; 23 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; two brothers and one great-granddaughter.
