Letter: Cherry-pickers cannnot disprove climate change

Comment on this story

Cherry-picking facts and quotes can "prove" anything. Witness Saturday's Views from the QCA attempting to prove there is no global warming. The writer started with an irrelevant quote and chose a few events to make his point.
Since the weather over the whole world is changing, one can always pick examples that go against the general flow.

Climate scientists, however, base their explanations on years of study and debate about all the data. This writer's example of an article from 39 years ago shows how the earliest climate scientists with the limited data they had were just beginning to theorize about "climate" rather than "weather." Now, with more more data and vastly improved computers, 99 percent of climate scientists see global warming occurring.

What surprises them is that it is happening even faster than they had predicted a few years ago.

If you want to accurately debate climate scientists, you need to devote the same years of study and research into ALL the data that they have. As for me, I will follow the information given by the researchers themselves to reporters of integrity like Al Gore.
