Kenneth J. Olsen, 96, of Davenport, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Trinity Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 4, in the Koning Chapel, Ridge Crest Village Davenport. Private burial services will take place at Fairmount Cemetery Davenport. Memorials may be made to Down by the Creek Companion Animal Program, Walcott, Iowa. Online condolences may be shared at rungemortuary.com.
Ken was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Davenport, to John and Augusta Louisa Runge Olsen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, having served during WWII. Ken married Margaret Schmidt on April 8, 1944, in Davenport; she preceded him in death in 1973. Ken was remarried to Ruth Uttry on Oct. 15, 1982, in Rock Island; she preceded him in death in 2008.
Ken apprenticed at the Runge Mortuary through high school. He was operations manager at Eastin 16mm Pictures and later Blackhawk Films until 1955. He then went to work for the city of Davenport in the parking division, retiring after 26 years as the superintendent.
He was a member of American Legion Post 26, Davenport, and a founding member of the Second Alarmers, an auxiliary to the Davenport Fire Department. He was proud to be a lifelong supporter of the Davenport Fire Department.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Lon Olsen (formerly Linda), West Des Moines, Iowa. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and a sister, Anita Ozmon.
