Andrew J. Kopatich, 85, East Moline, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at his home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, where he was a member. Burial is at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. A memorial fund has been established.
Andrew was born on Nov. 29, 1927, in Numa, Iowa, the son of Phillip and Albina Padavich Kopatich. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He spent a time in the Philippines, with his own PT boat and crew. He married Lois Meeks on Jan. 10, 1948, in Rock Island. She died on Oct. 23, 2002.
Mr. Kopatich was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 150 as a construction worker. He enjoyed NASCAR, the Chicago Bears and going to the local casinos. He was very handy and was always tinkering or working on a project.
Survivors include his children (spouses), Andrew P. (Mary Anne) Kopatich, Bettendorf, Kathryn Kopatich, East Moline, Steven (Velma) Kopatich, Rapids City, and David (Dawn) Kopatich, Mesa, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond (Betty) Kopatich, East Moline. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Violet.
