Vic Garvis, Moline, will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 9 with a family celebration.
His wife is Dorothy and they have been married more than 65 years. Vic is the 11th of 12 children in the Garvis family.
He graduated from Parkston, S.D., High School, and after serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he graduated from the University of South Dakota with a B.A. in education. He later obtained his M.A. from Western Illinois University.
After teaching and coaching at Provo High School in South Dakota for seven years, he joined the federal service and was on the faculty of the Army Management Engineering Training Agency on the Rock Island Arsenal. He retired in 1991, after which he served for nine years at Black Hawk College as an education adviser.
His children are Dan (Sandy), Iowa City; Mike (Pam), Moline; John, Chicago; and Gina (David) Svec, St. Joseph, Mich. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Moline.
