Police said Robert Rhodenbaugh was intoxicated the day he dropped a loaded revolver in a Milan gas station, and it discharged.

Mr. Rhodenbaugh, 56, of 501 W. 31st St., No. 604, Davenport, faces a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of reckless conduct.

At a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Rock Island County Circuit Court, Rock Island County Sheriff's Dept. Detective Eric Holton testified police were called to the QC Mart, near U.S. 67 and 106th Avenue West, on Jan. 26, after a clerk reported Mr. Rhodenbaugh came to the store intoxicated and armed with a gun.

While trying to buy alcohol and cigarettes, Mr. Rhodenbaugh's .44 caliber revolver fell from a holster wrapped over his coveralls, and hit the floor, discharging, Det. Holton said.

No one was injured and the gun was collected by police as evidence.

Det. Holton said Mr. Rhodenbaugh told officers he was intoxicated and was aware he had brought the firearm into the store.

Mr. Rhodenbaugh remained in Rock Island County Jail on Tuesday evening on a $20,000 bond. Records indicate his next court appearance is a March 28 pretrial conference.
