1863 — 150 years ago: Yesterday somebody removed the steps on Illinois Street to drivea coal team into the court Square and today the yard is well-filled with cattle that aredestroying the young trees there.
1888 — 125 years ago: The Davenport Cremation Society has announced plans toconstruct a crematorium at a cost of nearly $7,000.
1913 — 100 years ago: Captain and Mrs. Walter A. Rosenfield, of Rock Island, have goneto New York City, where they will embark for Panama.

The Illinois departmentof Transportation already has approved widening Black Hawk Road into a four-lanehighway from the Moline border to 38th Street. The $4.1 million project includes fundsto taper the widened highway to the two-lane width from 38th to 34th streets. Fundsare not available for highway improvements from 34th to 24th streets. Traffic at 34thStreet will see merging problems, said one city engineer.
