Letter: Former Silvis city clerk backs Ald. Cervantes in 1st Ward

Comment on this story

On Feb. 26, residents of the 1st Ward in Silvis will be voting for an alderman to represent them for the next four years.

For the past 12 years, Bob Cervantes has represented residents of the 1st Ward as one of two aldermen. I worked with Bob and know him to be an alderman who NEVER makes rash judgements, he studies the pros and cons of an issue, talks to residents as to their opinions and votes his convictions. He has the courage to vote no if he feels it is not what is best for the First Ward or the city as a whole.

Ald. Cervantes believes strongly in transparency in government and has shown this by holding Town Meetings on controversial issues, enabling residents to have their say.

Ald. Cervantes is not indebted to any group or organization and ALWAYS has the best interest of his ward and it's residents in mind.

Over the years I believe that Bob has represented his ward and the City of Silvis in a positive light be it by his attendance at meetings, city functions, etc. He has been the person responsible for arranging programs at Hero Street Memorial Park for Memorial Day and Veterans Day, he participates in the Silvis Moonlight Parade, Christmas in Silvis, he represents Silvis and his Ward in other cities parades and events as well.

In my mind there is no reason to replace Ald. Cervantes for the position of 1st Ward alderman.
