1913 -- 100 years ago: The Island City Boating Association's Clubhouse in Rock Islandwas ransacked last night by prowlers.
1938 -- 75 years ago: The government, which gave away millions of aces tohomesteaders in the great plains, has begun buying back the land in an effort to save the"dust bowl" from becoming a virtual desert. More than five million acres already havebeen purchased.
1963 -- 50 years ago: South Moline Township voters turned out yesterday but justbarely. Only about 50 votes were cast in a primary election that gave the nod to RobertV. Brewer, Frank J.
