Lylah Marie Larson Holstrom, 80, of Geneseo, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care in Geneseo.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation for Lylah will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo, where an Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be left to the First Lutheran Church or Hammond-Henry Hospital Foundation.
She was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Moline to C. Elmer and Elsie Henander Larson. She married Forrest A. Holstrom on Nov. 14, 1954, in Geneseo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 2004.
Lylah was a 1951 graduate of Geneseo High School. While in high school, she worked as an operator at the Geneseo Telephone Company. After graduating from Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline in 1954, she worked at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo and later as a private nurse. She was a longtime American Red Cross volunteer, and she and her husband coordinated many local bloodmobiles.
She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Geneseo, where she sang in the church choir for many years and took part in women's circle activities. When her children were young, she served as a Girl Scout leader and PTA volunteer. She was a Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary member and a past worthy matron of the Geneseo chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together in their retirement years. She also loved attending her class and family reunions.
Surviving are a son, Carl Edward (Marsha) Holstrom, Bettendorf; a daughter, Laura (Kelly) VanLaningham, East Peoria; three grandsons, Brandon Holstrom, Elliott Holstrom and Noah VanLaningham; two stepgrandsons, Shea VanLaningham and Drew VanLaningham.
