COAL VALLEY — Board members on Wednesday approved Ryan Meyers to fill the trustee seat vacated by Drue Mielke, who was elected to the Rock Island County Board in November.
A resident of Coal Valley for seven years, the category manager for John Deere served on the planning and zoning board for nearly four years.
"I've always wanted to serve. This was an opportunity for me to provide some input to the community," said Mr. Meyers.
In other action, the board approved a $9,000 bid from Hoerr Construction for an intergovernmental agreement to clean and reline 5,000 feet of the sewer system. The company will use a camera system to inspect and televise pipes as they are cleaned.
A vote on bids to install an emergency generator in the village hall was tabled until further discussion.Trustees also agreed a more balanced contract is needed with the public library since it shares space in the building.
"I think the library, since this is going to benefit them, should be responsible for part of the cost," said Mayor Stan Engstrom.
