1863 -- 150 years ago: Last Saturday was one of the most beautiful days of the year,mercury 45 degrees above zero, town full of teams and wheat worth one dollar a bushel.
1888 -- 125 years ago: The first February rain, which probably will be followed by manyothers, fell in Rock Island today.
1913 -- 100 years ago: The Rock Island High School basketball team is on a two-day tripfor games with Monmouth and Abingdon.
1938 -- 75 years ago: The House of Representatives today passed a bill permitting the city of Rock Island to erect a $2,500,000 bridge across the Mississippi River betweenRock Island and Davenport.
1963 -- 50 years ago: A house, the former parsonage of First Methodist Church, RockIsland, was moved today from 1814 5th Ave., Rock Island, to the new site at 8th Street and 13th Avenue, Rock Island. The 100-ton structure was moved by an eight-man crew of theJim Wallace Construction Co., of Wyanet. The house was moved west on 5th Avenue, thewrong way on the one-way street, by special police permission.
1988 -- 25 years ago: Area residents now have a place to ice skate, thanks to the villageboard. Trustee Rick Gilliland, chairman of the park and recreation committee, toldthe board on Monday night the new rink on 2nd Avenue is ready for use. The villageflooded three vacant lots near the tennis courts for ice skating after obtaining permissionfrom the owners.
