Rockridge High School athletic director Scott Daly runs out in a cheerleading uniform, Monday, February 4, 2013, in front of the high school body at a welcome home ceremony as part of a bet he made before the competitive cheer team went to state. He promised the team if they brought back hardware from the two-day competition, he would dress in a cheer uniform. The team ended up second in the state for their division on Saturday.

The Rockridge High School cheerleaders claimed state runner-up honors in the Illinois High School Association's competitive cheer competition for small schools Feb. 2-3 in Bloomington. The team posted a final score of 87 out of a possible 100. They finished just .20 points behind the winner, Dwight, which had a score of 87.20. The squad posted the highest score for its division on Friday, before a one-point deduction again placed it behind Dwight entering Saturday's finals. This was the fifth time since 2006-07 that Rockridge has competed in the state finals for small schools competitive cheering. Coached by Joey Stanforth and Gail Kuster, the square includes: -- Seniors Genna Flaherty, Carrie Gingerich, Kourtney Kiddoo, Kayla Schroeder and Haylee Walker; -- Juniors R.D. Farrington, Maddie Woeber and Ayla Zampogna; -- Sophomores Jordan Bohnsack, Taylor Hitchcock, Payton Long, Ellery Parker, Abby Peters and Alexus Tennant; and -- Freshman Miyah Sellers.
