Andover is hosting a Celebrity Pie Festival on Saturday to raise money for an Aisle of Flags and sidewalks in Veteran's Memorial Garden at Andover Lake Park.

The pie contest/auction/eating festival begins at 6:30 p.m. in Luther Hall at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover. Admission is free. The event is hosted by the Andover Tourism Council and Andover Village Board.

Event co-chairman Amber Lilly said she and her mother, Denise Lilly, came up with the event categories. They are veterans, mayors, pastors, media and community.

Anyone in those categories can sign up to bake a pie for the competition by contacting Amber Lilly at lil_lilly5@hotmail.com or Denise Lilly at (309) 521-8132. All pies should be taken to Luther Hall from 2 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 9.

Three "professional food connoisseurs" will do the judging, and winners will receive prizes donated by area residents.

In addition to pies, the auction will include one-night stays at several local hotels/motels; tickets to Comedy Sportz, a Mallards game, and the Family Museum; and various other items. Al Stenzel of Stenzel Auction Service Inc. will be the auctioneer.

People also will be able to sign up to buy a flag for the Aisle of Flags to honor a veteran.

"We hope to have an Aisle of Flags that is one block long and a pedestrian walk alongside the flags," said Ron Peterson of the Andover Tourism Council, who estimated the total cost of the project at $32,000.
