1863 — 150 years ago: Two little six-year old boys yesterday procured some powder froma building belonging to the father of one of them — bored a hold in the ground and pouredin the powder and set fire to it. Both boys were very badly burned.
1888 — 125 years ago: Mail carriers in Rock Island have received notice of a salaryincrease from $600 to $850 annually.
1913 — 100 years ago: The total estimate for paving 2nd Ave. between 11th and 17th streets, and 17th Street between 2nd and 4th avenues has been set at $31,537.
