Press release submitted by Adrian Carriers, Inc.

WORLDS LARGEST SHIPPING COMPANY NAMES ADRIAN CARRIERS

Maersk Line the worlds largest shipping company now has direct ties to the Quad Cities, appointing Adrian Carries in Milan a container depot for Maersk. Maersk operates only one other container depot in the Tri state region that is located in Chicago. Adrian Carriers is the only container depot between Chicago and Omaha. With both owned and contracted power Adrian runs over 150 trucks and 700 container chassis for hauling containers. Maersk owns and operates over 500 ships with 1.8 million containers.
This depot will have a major impact on area companies shipping and receiving international freight. One of the major obstacles to cost effectively importing and exporting from this region has been and will continue to be the cost of repositioning empty containers. This depot will eliminate those empty mile costs. Import containers will terminate in Milan rather then be taken back empty to Chicago and Export containers will originate in Milan rather then having to be picked up empty in Chicago.
A major plus to this move is the environmental impact. Current Maersk volume in the Quad City area shows over 500,000 empty miles will be eliminated. This translates into a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 2.1 million pounds per year.
Maersk is the third major Ocean Carrier to designate Adrian Carriers as a depot in Milan, OOCL (USA) Inc. and Hapag Lloyd (America) Inc. also have depot operations at Adrian.
With the addition of Maersk the combined reduction in CO2 emissions will exceed 10 million pounds annually.
Adrian is proud to partner with such an environmentally friendly company like Maresk. Maersk operates the largest most fuel-efficient ships in the world.
We all have to do whatever we can to reduce our carbon footprint.
