Letter: If you like pie, don’t miss contest, auction, eating fest

Comment on this story

If you like pie, and who doesn't, you will want to come to Andover's pie contest/auction/eating festival at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, in Luther Hall, Augustana Lutheran Church.

The event is to help fund an aisle of flags and sidewalk adjacent to the Veterans' Memorial Garden at the Andover Lake Park. A trio of professional food connoisseurs will judge entries in five categories: mayors, veterans, news media, pastors and community.

These pies will then be auctioned by Al Stenzel of Stenzel Auction Service Inc., along with pies donated by other area pie bakers. The judges are: Stephanie Godke, cooking instructor, restaurant consultant and cook book author; Jim Godke, long-time pie connoisseur and president of Joy State Bank; and Brian Witt, all around foodie and pie lover, and feature reporter for Paula Sands Live on KWQC TV6.

These people will guarantee you will have a fun-filled evening, plus all the pie you can eat! Also that evening, there will be a table where people can sign up to donate a flag for the aisle of flags in memory of a loved one. The pie festival is being hosted by the Andover Tourism Council and Andover Village Board.
