JONESBORO, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois man who appealed a 22-year sentence in a sexual assault on a child has been ordered to spend more than twice that amount of time in prison.
A Union County judge this week sentenced 51-year-old Gregory McCord to 48 years.
In 2010, a jury convicted the former Jonesboro man of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault and child pornography. Authorities say the misconduct happened in 2006 and 2007.
State's Attorney Tyler Edmonds tells WSIL-TV that McCord initially was sentenced to 22 years in prison but challenged that. An appellate court sent his case back to Union County for resentencing, ruling that his terms should have run one after the other, not simultaneously.
