There are 343 days left in the year. 1863 -- 150 years ago: The wants of the public demand more room at the post office and separate entrance for the ladies. There is no place for ladies to wait for their mail without being crowed by men and rude boys. 1888 --125 years ago: Six cases of diphtheria have been reported in Rock Island since Jan 1. The disease is abating some what. 1913 --100 years ago: Property owners on 2nd Avenue between 9th and 14th streets have filed protests against paving the thoroughfare. 1938 -- 75 years ago: A federal jury of farmers and small tradesmen today convicted 16 major Midwest oil companies and 30 of their executives for violating the anti-trust laws in a conspiracy to raise and fix gasoline prices during 1936 and 1937. 1963 -- 50 years ago: A request to transfer a retail beer permit to the Rock Island County Fairgrounds is under consideration of the East Moline City Council, it was disclosed today. Sponsors of auto racing at the fairgrounds track submitted the request for second consideration. An earlier appeal was denied last summer. 1988 -- 25 years ago: Sieg Partners, of Davenport, today unveiled a scale model of The Waterfront, a $7 million development along Moline's River Drive which would include a hotel-condo complex, restaurants, offices and stores. "This will be 10 acres of building under one roof, not including the hotel-condo," said Joe Camarena, Sieg Partners director of marketing. "It is the largest thing of this magnitude in the Quad-Cities."
