Letter: President forgot abortion in war on senseless violence

Comment on this story

In his speech about gun control and senseless violence, President Obama, the most pro-abortion president in our history, forgot to mention an estimated 3,800 other acts of senseless violence that take place each year.

These acts of violence are not committed by crazed or angry shooters, they are committed by licensed, upstanding members of our community known as physicians.

These physicians should know better, having been through medical school and at least one class on embryology and the beginning of human life, we would hope.

The number of victims of these 3,800 acts of senseless violence needs to be doubled because the unborn babies are not the only victims, their mothers are victims also.

Many of them are pressured to abort in a number of ways boyfriends will leave if they don't, lose scholarship if they don't, will be kicked out of family if they don't, etc.

Additional coercion comes at the abortion facility where they are not given all the information they need to make a free, informed choice. This is NOT free choice.

If you would like to read more about the pressure pregnant women feel when making their decision, good resources are theunchoice.com or afterabortion.org,, where you will find documented information.

As we come up to the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, let's commemorate the estimated 55 million babies whose lives have been taken and pray for their mothers, who may be suffering silently, whether their choice was freely made or not.
