Letter: No one needs an assault weapon with a 30-round clip

I'm a liberal, as were our Founding Fathers. It wasn't conservatives who dumped the tea into Boston Harbor. Tax thing, you know. I'm not crazy about them, either. But I have been paying taxes for 50 years because I know I can't pave my own roads or buy my own cruise missiles.

And the Second Amendment does not say that every well-regulated militant teenager needs an assault weapon with a 30-round clip. No one does.

In 1967, my friends and neighbors let me go to Vietnam where they gave me an M16 with a 20-round clip. The plan was to keep Vietnam from going with the Russians: 58,000 dead later, Russia turned capitalist and Vietnam went communist and sells us T-shirts and caps.

The Supreme Court appointed George Bush president in 2000. He went to Crawford and went to sleep.

Bush came into office with four years of surpluses and a national debt projected to be paid off in 2006. Alan Greenspan said we were paying off the debt too fast. So Bush cut taxes on the rich and started a couple of unfunded wars and left us in a recession.

We didn't go over the cliff, no thanks to the Republican Congress. They have fought President Obama tooth and nail but we will recover anyway.
Republicans want Obama to lead them in the direction they want to go. How about a Depression this time?

What do the Republican Congress, George Bush and Dick Cheney have in common? Under 20 percent approval ratings.
