Benjamin J. "Benny" Sparacello, 86, of East Moline, died on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Private family services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospitals.
Benny was born on Aug. 1, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Vitale and Frances Avezzano Sparacello. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and married Naomi Bizzarri on Feb. 23, 1952, in Brooklyn. She died on Oct. 14, 1992.
He was employed as a laborer at W. R. Grace Company, Brooklyn, for many years. He enjoyed fishing and walking along the river and feeding the ducks.
Benny is survived by four children and their spouses, Vito and Susan Sparacello, Moline, Frances and Albert Anderson, Janesville, Wis., Naomi Sparacello and Allan Dietz, Davenport, and Ann and Dean Sellers, Moline; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Hart, Ben "B.J." Sparacello, Michael and Alisha Sellers, Doug and Trish Sodeman, Tammy and Jason Caldwell, and Laurie Denys; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and four siblings.
