Rock Island County Sheriff's deputies are on the scene of an apparent home invasion on Big Island. Police reportedly are seeking two males who broke into the home.

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Department and Moline Police Department are investigating two Wednesday home invasions, one on Big Island in Milan and one on 12th Street Court  in Moline.

Police have not linked the two incidents.

After a Wednesday afternoon chase, Moline police arrested Ortiz O. Marangeli, 26, and Luis Madera- Martinez, 29, both reportedly from Texas, in connection with the incident in the 3500 block of 12th Street Court. Police said a third person remains at large.

About 1 p.m., police received a report that a white, four-door sports utility vehicle had pulled up outside the brick, one-story home and two males got out of the vehicle and forced their way in through the front door of the house, Detective Scott Williams said at the scene.

"They must have been watching, because as soon as the cop was responding here, he saw them run out the back door and run up through the woods," Detective Williams said, pointing to a wooded area behind the house.

About eight police officers searched the woods and apprehended two men a short time later, but the driver of the SUV drove off and still was not in police custody as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Glass was broke out of the front door of the house. It's unknown whether anything was taken.

A neighbor who declined to give his name said he was shocked the incident occurred in broad daylight. He said a family with children lived in the house.

No one was in the house when the break-in occurred. A man who arrived shortly after declined to comment.

At 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, a break-in was reported in the 2800 block of 54th Ave. West, Milan. Rock island County Sheriff's Department deputies were told two masked men armed with a gun entered the one-story house and took three firearms before fleeing.

There was no report of injuries to the lone occupant of the residence.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office at (309) 558-3414 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 762-9500.
