1888 -- 125 years ago: The Rock Island Y.M.C.A. today launched a drive for $1,700 withwhich to conduct the year's activities.
1913 -- 100 years ago: The women's unit of the Rock Island County farmer's institutetoday elected Mrs. R.L. Wilson, of Milan, president of the organization.
1938 -- 75 years ago: George E. Albrand, of Rock Island, last night was installed ascommander of Siboney Bay Camp No. 8, United Spanish War Veterans, in MemorialHall at the courthouse.
1963 -- 50 years ago: Wage proposals of the Rock Island police union, seeking benefitswhich would cost about $45,900 to provide during the forthcoming fiscal year, weresubmitted to the city manager and City Council today. The proposals ask a minimumof $25 per month increase, a longevity allowance of $5 a month for each five years ofservice up to 20 years and a $2.50 an hour allowance for court appearances.
1988 -- 25 years ago: Students in the Moline School District will have a spring breakin mid-March, 1990, several weeks before Easter, according to the two-year calendarschool board members approved on Tuesday. The new 1990 calendar reflects a change inthe Moline School District tradition of scheduling spring break with Easter week.
