1863 — 150 years ago: The roads are improving. Quite a number of teams loaded with dressed hogs, coal, hay, corn and wood are in the market today. Coal is selling at 10 cents per bushel.
1888 — 125 years ago: Gentlemen's beaver fur overcoats are being sold at the samplerooms of the Harper House for $125.
1913 — 100 years ago: E.W. Hurst, of Rock Island, will attend a dinner in Chicago nextweek to honor President-elect Woodrow Wilson.
1938 — 75 years ago: Rock Island's aldermen had to wear their overcoats again last nightto keep warm during the council session.
1963 — 50 years ago: Lee O. Dawson, president of the Black Hawk College Board ofEducation, said last night that "it was regrettable" that someone had led the press tobelieve that Black Hawk College was considering the purchase of Black Hawk State Parkas a site for a future campus.
1988 — 25 years ago: Snow on the East coast has pushed back delivery dates for newgarbage cans that will be tested in the Heritage and Deer View additions of Moline. Thenew cans will be delivered Jan. 15 and 18, not Jan. 12 and 13 as originally planned.
