Davenport calls for Snow Angels to help neighbors in need this winter
The Davenport Volunteer Connection (DVC), a City of Davenport initiative created to promote, support and celebrate volunteerism, is coordinating a new effort to match volunteers with senior and physically disabled residents in the community to remove snow from their sidewalks and walkways.
As snow moves into the forecast, we are reminded of the sometimes hazardous conditions it can create on our streets and sidewalks. The Snow Angels program is designed to minimize the hardship of snow removal for seniors and disabled residents in need and help keep our sidewalks clear and safe throughout the City. Volunteers and recipients are encouraged to sign up today and help ensure a safe and pleasant winter for everyone.
"Davenport is a caring community and we know there are many "snow angels" out there who already assist their neighbors each winter" said Kim Hatfield, DVC Coordinator. "We appreciate the example they've set for our community and we hope others will join in this coordinated city-wide effort to keep our sidewalks safe and clear".
Caring individuals, community groups, and organizations are encouraged to apply to be Snow Angels. Volunteers will remove snow in accordance with the City's Sidewalk Snow Removal Policy.
To receive assistance from a Snow Angel volunteer, Davenport residents lacking snow removal resources must be age 60 or older or have a physical disability.
