Cyril Gordon Whitesides, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village, Boonsboro, Md.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Moline, he was the son of the late Cyril J. and Eva A. Gordon Whitesides. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Jean Whitesides.
Cyril was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Hagerstown Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he was a deacon of the church.
He retired in 1989 from the Review & Herald Publishing Association. Cyril loved to golf and work on cars.
He is survived by four daughters, Christine Mackey, and husband, Paul, Hagerstown, Vivien Jenkin, and husband, Gerald, Bremerton, Wash., Jeanne Bursott, Clinton, Iowa, and Sharon Charnoski, and husband, Gary, Clinton; two sons, Cyril Whitesides Jr., and wife, Linda, Jefferson, Pa., and Steven Whitesides, and wife, Anita, Hagerstown; one sister, Beverly Vickroy, Sherrard; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Whitesides.
