Steward wins at Morton: United Township 113-pound junior Jeronnie Steward won his weight class at the Morton Invitational. Steward was one of five UT medalists, but the only champion. Tanner Schuldt (152) took second, and Marques Harrison (106), DeMerrio Teague (120) and Travis Miller (220) all were fifth.
Jones, McGhee victorious at Sycamore: Rock Island 120-pound senior B.J. McGhee and Moline 285-pound junior Adarios Jones each won titles at the Sycamore Invitational. McGhee coasted to the title, securing five falls and one major decision on the day. He want the title after pinning Machesney Park Harlem's Mike Sikula in the first period. Jones had three falls in five matches, but earned a 2-1 win over Downers Grove South's Mike Hobbs in the championship bout.
The Rocks received third-place finishes from Tyler Dehaven (126 pounds) and Michael Cole (170), and Jean-Louis Sawadago (145) took fourth. Rocky finished sixth in the 23-team meet with 461.5 points and Moline was 13th with 317.5.
Geneseo wins three: The Geneseo Maple Leafs earned victories over Normal Community (84-0), Chicago Heights Bloom (62-6) and LaSalle-Peru (50-16) at the LaSalle-Peru quadrangular. Geneseo (19-1) now has won 19 consecutive duals. No other information was available at press time.
Mercer County gets champs: Top-ranked 152-pound senior Zach Nelson and 138-pound sophomore Tristen Finch helped Mercer County to a third-place finish at the Princeton Invitational. Nelson and Finch each won their respective brackets as the Golden Eagles earned 166.5 points to finish behind first-place Dakota (190 points) and Wilmington (171.5).
Finch topped Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley-Fisher's Chet McClure in the final and Nelson beat Sterling Newman's Bryce Ivey.
Alleman 170-pound senior Sean Wetherell dropped a 6-5 decision to top-ranked Pittsfield senior Zach Abney in the final. Orion's Joe DeVolder took second at 145 points after losing to Dakota's Carver James.
Polo Invitational: Steven Balk carried the load in what was a otherwise slow outing for the Fulton wrestling team at the Polo Invitational. Balk finished in sixth at 285, scoring all six of Fulton's team points. Fulton finished 18th in the 18 team event that was won by Glenbard North.
