Funeral services for Anthony "Tony" Moreno Jr., 77, of Silvis, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. today at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m.
Mr. Moreno died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Tony was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Moline, the son of Anthony and Gabriela Terronez Moreno Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Margaret Hernandez Oct. 12, 1957, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis.
He had worked for the former International Harvester Works, East Moline, and retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He had been a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. He enjoyed golfing, bike riding and was a Notre Dame fan. He loved his family and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margaret Moreno, Silvis; daughters, Denise (Randy) Ramos, East Moline, Kathy (Kelvin) Frere, East Moline, Jackie (Bill) Sierra, Brighton, Colo., Mary (Matt) Matthews Sr., East Moline, and Marlene Dyer, Silvis; son, Patrick (Kris) Moreno, Silvis; grandchildren, Melissa, Amy, Eric, Michelle, Payton, Jessica, Heather, Brooke, Brandi, Ryan, Lacey, Mallory, Sadie, Ysabel, Matt Jr., Courtney, Chris, Brad and Jesse; 17 great-grandchildren; mother, Gabriela Moreno, Silvis; sister, Carmen Sanchez, Silvis; brother, Robert (Lydia) Moreno, McKinney, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Carlos Moreno.
The family would like to thank the Legion of Mary and the staff at Heartland Hospice, especially Mark and Amanda for their excellent care.
