Kewanee man charged with reckless homicide

CAMBRIDGE — A Kewanee man waived a preliminary hearing Monday on various charges stemming from an Oc. 14 accident that allegedly caused the death of Gary L. Vancil.

Fred J. Yelm, 37, is charged with Class 3 felony reckless homicide and three counts Class 2 felony aggravated driving under the influence. Charges were filed Dec. 12.

According to Henry County circuit court files, Mr. Yelm allegedly drove a motor vehicle in the 500 block of East Division Street, Kewanee and crashed his vehicle into a garage at 517 E. Division, where he ran into Mr. Vancil.

Mr. Yelm remained in custody Monday afaternoon on $150,000 bail. His next pretrial hearing is Jan. 24.
