1888 -- 125 years ago: Revival services were started at the First Methodist Church inRock Island last night.
1913 -- 100 years ago: The Rock Island Post Office became a link today in the UnitedStates parcel post system.
1938 -- 75 years ago: Rock Island County's marriage license business was cut 22.6 percent in 1937 by two new Illinois laws requiring health examinations and three daysnotice before issuance of a marriage license.
1963 -- 50 years ago: A record New Year's Day attendance for Holiday on Ice in theQuad-Cities was set at two performances yesterday in the Rock Island Armory. Acapacity crowd saw the half-fare children's matinee in the afternoon, and standing roomwas sold for last night's performance. The regular seating capacity is 3,500.
