W. Hurst as president. 1912 — 100 years ago: The cornerstone of Rock Island's new Y.M.C.A. building at Twentieth Street and Fifth Avenue was laid yesterday at an appropriate ceremony. 1937 — 75 years ago: The East Moline Woman's Club today issued an appeal for funds with which to provide baskets of food and other necessities for East Moline needy families at Christmas time. 1962 — 50 years ago: An aerial bucket was used to trim with lights one of the largestChristmas trees in the Rock Island community this weekend. The twin blue spruce is at Steepmeadow Club, 15th St. and 21st Ave., Rock Island. 1987 — 25 years ago: A lack of business has forced the closing of Orwitz's Delicatessen, a fixture in downtown Rock Island for 30 years.
