Letter: Get church out of politics; get politics out of church
Comment on this story
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. First Amendment
This letter is in answer to a Nov. 22 letter that complained about the Catholic Church involvement in politics. I can answer this person's complaint in one sentence: When the government gets out of religion the church will get out of politics.
If you don't like what your church is teaching, start reading your Bible. If that doesn't change your mind about the issues involved, change churches.
Abortion, same sex marriage are moral issues and the government can't legislate morality as much as it tries. And if your religious beliefs are against these things, the government says you have to pay for abortion and hiring homosexuals, even if you don't want to.
The government is trying to pass laws making it a crime to even speak out against homosexuality. That could make this letter illegal. If you aren't still convinced, think about Catholic schools with openly homosexual teachers. That is where we are headed. I do not like hearing about politics in church either. But if the church doesn't speak up this country is lost.
If you read the 1st Amendment at the start of this letter, you found no reference to the "separation of church and state."
