Richard Krantz, of Moline, turned in the most impressive Ness Guess Football Contest showing of the season.
For the first time this season, and maybe the only time with five weeks to go, Krantz pulled off a victory that was two games better than anyone else. In winning his $100 prize, Krantz went 15-0, and even would have won had he missed the Sunday night game between the Giants and the Packers.
There were nine at 13-2, but they weren't even a worry to Krantz. Those honorable mentions were: John Rogers, of Rock Island, Randy Price, of Port Byron, Mike Stahle, of Bettendorf, Tim Donahue, of Davenport, Anthony Dopke, of Keithsburg, Mia Ruthey, and Taylor Eaker, of Moline, Peter Thayer, of North Aurora, and Jessica Henderson, of Bloomfield, Iowa.
Equally impressive last week with a season's-best differential was WQAD-TV sports director Matt Randazzo. With the Ness Guess picking a boatload of upsets that didn't come through – an early Christmas present for 'Dazzo – Randazzo won easily, 13-2 to 6-9. Still, the Ness Guess holds a somewhat-comfortable lead, 7-4-1, heading into December.
Now, for this week's games:
1. Vikings at Packers
Ness: Packers: Stubbed their toe last week; the other toes are safe.
Dazzo: Packers: Vikings the victim of a big bounce-back game for second straight week.
2. 49ers at Rams
Ness: 49ers: Could win with a third-string quarterback here.
Dazzo: 49ers: Picked up their new QB for my fantasy team.
3. Cardinals at Jets
Ness: Jets: Cardinals truly are one of the NFL's worst.
Dazzo: Jets: Arizona hasn't won a game in two months.
4. Panthers at Chiefs
Ness: Panthers: There is a reason why the Chiefs are headed for the No. 1 draft pick.
Dazzo: Panthers: Just can't pick Chiefs again this season.
5. Colts at Lions
Ness: Lions: Coach, keep the challenge flag in the pocket.
Dazzo: Lions: Thanksgiving call was worst call in the NFL since CJ's "TD" in Soldier Field a few years ago.
6. Jaguars at Bills
Ness: Bills: Jags only have enough offense to win at home vs. the Titans. Grrr.
Dazzo: Bills: Sadly the second best team in the AFC East.
7. Dolphins at Patriots
Ness: Patroits: No slowing them down now.
Dazzo: Patriots: Easily the best team in the East.
8. Texans at Titans
Ness: Texans: They are my Super Bowl pick. For now. Unlikely to change.
Dazzo: Texans: Houston will have a lot of meaningless games in December.
9. Bucs at Broncos
Ness: Broncos: Manning back in where he was, making Broncos dangerous.
Dazzo: Broncos: Peyton making great case for MVP and Comeback Player of the Year.
10. Steelers at Ravens
Ness: Ravens: Would like more of those fancy Ray Rice special plays.
Dazzo: Ravens: No Big Ben, no problem for Baltimore.
11. Browns at Raiders
Ness: Raiders: Would have picked the Browns with a healthy QB.
Dazzo: Browns: Only because I have to make a pick.
12. Bengals at Chargers
Ness: Bengals: Keeping themselves in the playoff mix.
Dazzo: Bengals: Quietly one of the hottest in the NFL
13. Seahawks at Bears
Ness: Seahawks: Concerned about Bears injuries.
Dazzo: Bears: Injured offensive line might be a blessing.
14. Eagles at Cowboys
Ness: Cowboys: Andy Reid might want to check out the 'now hiring' ads.
Dazzo: Cowboys: Two of NFL's biggest disasters.
15. Giants at Redskins
Ness: Giants: Looked their best last week against one of the NFC's best.
Dazzo: Giants: Has NFL's attention again.
