1887 -- 125 years ago: Yesterday furnished Rock Island with the coldest day of the fallseason with 10 degrees above zero reported. The ice bridge on the Mississippi Riverbetween Port Byron and LeClaire is in use.
1912 -- 100 years ago: George Yeggy and Albert Don have returned from a 224-mileautomobile trip to Hartford, Wis. They fought a blizzard and deep snowdrifts on thereturn trip to Rock Island.
1937 -- 75 years ago: Moline Airport's main hangar, shop and office was destroyed byfire this morning. Damage estimated at $30,000 is not covered by insurance.
1962 -- 50 years ago: St. Matthew Lutheran Church began worshiping in its new edificein Milan yesterday, following dedicatory rites. About 420 persons attended openingservices at the church, which listed an average attendance of 125 while worshipingtemporarily in the W. L. Eddy School. Another 360 persons attended an afternoondedicatory service.
