On Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, Edward Ellis Parmeter, 86, of Milan, crossed over the bridge to join his departed loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made in care of the Disabled American Veterans.
Edward was born in Burlington, Iowa, on Oct. 7, 1926, a son of John P. and Ora M. Ellis Parmeter. He married Hazel Haviland on Dec. 5, 1958, in Burlington. They later divorced.
Edward retired after many years as a heavy-equipment operator, last working for Illinois Iowa Blacktop. Edward was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He also was an avid hunter.
Those left to celebrate his memory are daughter, Leslie (Hollis) Mathies, Milan; grandchildren, Brandy (Robert) Pauley, Reynolds, Ryan (Krista) Peterson, Joy, and Holli Mathies, Milan; four great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Dean, Davenport; and his significant other of 30 years, Eleanor McIntire, Milan, and her children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Edward will be greeted by his parents; brothers, Joseph, John, Charles and George Parmeter; and sisters, Martha Bloom and Marian Powell, until we all meet again.
