Fog blankets the Mississippi River as a cyclist rides through East Moline on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. The dense fog that settled into the Quad-Cities on Tuesday night remained through Wednesday morning, but is expected to lift by this afternoon.

A dense fog alert remains in effect until noon today, according to the National Weather Service. Visibility this morning was less than a quarter-mile in most areas and near zero in some locales.

The fog will gradually lift through the morning but will remain dense along the Mississippi until noon or later, the NWS said.

Temperatures will increase as the fog lifts, and are expected to top out in the low 60s this afternoon.

Thanksgiving Day temperatures are expected to be in the 60s as well, though there is a 40 percent chance of rain in the afternoon.
