Susie Carpentier, assessor of South Rock Island Township, Rock Island County, was unanimously elected to serve as 3rd vice president of the Board of Directors of the Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) during the Association's 105th Annual Educational Conference held in Springfield, Illinois, November 11-13, 2012.

The Township Officials of Illinois, the largest statewide organization of its kind, annually conducts a series of training programs and educational conferences with the November Educational Conference being the largest. TOI serves as an informational clearinghouse for member townships as well as members of the Illinois General Assembly, Members of Congress, and federal and state agencies.

Keynote speaker of the 105th Annual Conference was Dr. Dale Henry, who spoke to officials with Full Speed Ahead with a New Attitude. Sharing the Opening Session were outgoing TOI President Mickey Goral; Conference Chair Mary Hamilton from Aetna Township (Logan Co.); TOI Legislative Consultant Tim Bramlet, and TOI Executive Director Bryan E. Smith with the State of the Association message. Township Government: Full Speed Ahead! was the theme of this year's Conference.

More than 800 delegates attended educational sessions on the 2013 election cycle, the Cemetery Oversight Act, grant writing, intergovernmental agreements, TIF Districts' impact on townships, the Freedom of Information Act, budgets and much more. Attendees selected from more than 30 educational sessions at this year's conference.

"Township officials face many challenges as they make decisions that affect their residents. Susie is an excellent example of the type of leader we need in township government, the government closest to the people," said TOI Executive Director Bryan E. Smith.
