A Quad-Cities woman is demanding financial compensation after she said she was bitten by a snake at the America's Best Inn in Moline on May 25.
Carol VanLandegen, no hometown available, said she was sleeping in her second-floor motel room when a snake, hiding in her bed, bit her left heel, according to an arbitration suit filed Thursday in Rock Island County Circuit Court.
Ms. Vanlandegen, who sought hospital treatment for the bite, claims the motel should have checked the boxsprings of their beds and taken greater care to ensure that "wild animals" would not find their way into guest rooms, the complaint states.
On Friday, motel manager Nirmal Singh called the allegations "monkey business" and said "I don't know what she's talking about. There is no snake on my property."
Ms. VanLandegen's attorney, Michael Warner of Rock Island, said his client believes the snake was a python.
He said an arbitration hearing is expected to be scheduled on Dec. 14.
