YORKVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A 23-year-old Aurora man has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for a slaying in Oswego three years ago.
The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports that Kendall County Judge John Barsanti sentenced Francisco Salazar on Wednesday to 30 years for murder and 25 years for attempted murder.
Salazar was convicted in May in the death of 17-year-old Jason Ventura, a former star soccer player at East Aurora High School.
Prosecutors say Salazar drove four men to a party in Oswego in December 2009. While Salazar's group was leaving, one of them exchanged rival gang signs with someone in Ventura's car.
Prosecutors say Salazar turned his car around and a passenger, Zachary Reyes, fired 11 shots into Ventura's car, striking Ventura and another man.
Reyes is serving a 92-year sentence.
