Durbin retains Senate leadership position

CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, of Illinois, will retain his position as the assistant majority leader in the U.S. Senate. Durbin's office said Wednesday that he was unanimously re-elected as the second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate. This is Durbin's fourth term as assistant majority leader. The job includes being the lead person in day-to-day action on the Senate floor and the post is responsible for counting votes and monitoring legislation on the floor. It's also known as the majority whip. Durbin says in a statement that he's honored to continue to serve.
