1862 -- 150 years ago: Since it is a sacred duty of nations as well as individuals, toacknowledge the manifestations of God's endearing mercy and loving kindness, thegovernor of the state has appointed Thursday the 27th day of November as a day ofthanksgiving and prayer.
1887 -- 125 years ago: The Sears Park Amusement Company has purchased 27 acres ofland immediately north of the Sear mill.
1912 -- 100 years ago: Five teams today practically completed the first section of the 9thStreet improvement and tomorrow six teams supplied by Rock Island business houses willbegin the work of improving the road south of the first Rock River Bridge.
1937 -- 75 years ago: A new record for freight handled at the Rock Island River-RailTerminal was assured when barge dock tonnage gained 4,358 over last year and set anall-time season mark in October.
