I've been installing high efficiency furnaces and air conditioners for over 10 years. Now, I'd like to install some efficiency in Illinois' General Assembly.
If elected, I plan to be the strongest voice possible for the 74th District here in Illinois. I look to be a voice against waste and against corruption. A voice that protects workers, services, and the middle class.
Atkinson is a town of less than 1,000 residents. When I was elected in 2009 to oversee my hometown's progress, our finances were uncertain.
My first goals were cost control and debt reduction. In the first budget I wrote for Atkinson, we cut 10 percent in general expenses, while increasing our general revenues 16 percent.
This was simply by cutting waste and being more efficient with properties and our employees. We empowered employees to do more work rather than outsource it. This has led to better wages and more jobs as well. In this first budget, Atkinson saved $167,000. We haven't looked back since. Every budget after has been balanced with a surplus.
We always talk about the USA or Illinois paying its debt down. In Atkinson, we don't talk about it, we do it! If Atkinson continues on my plan, and pays off our debt within the next two years, we can save close to $150,000 in interest alone.
Attacking Illinois' interest can help save schools, jobs, and programs for the elderly or disabled. It can help pave roads or start small businesses. Or it can help prevent us from raising taxes. Just like Atkinson! We haven't raised taxes in three years! We haven't raised rates in three years! All because we don't waste money.
We also gave curbside recycling back to the community at no cost and put $100,000 extra down on our loan principle.
My opponent is a 20-year incumbent. He has had 20 years to get Illinois on solid ground. Ask yourself, "Are we on solid ground?" Has my opponent voiced the people's concerns loud enough for the 74th District?
Most of his money comes from big interest. None of my contributions have come from big interest. Of his top 15 contributors by city, only two cities are within the district we are running for. Some are not even from Illinois.
The No. 1 city contributor, which is three times more than the second city contributor, is Springfield. I think it's about time we get someone in office whose interests come from the 74th District, not Springfield. (www.followthemoney.org)
I believe we can do this.My glass is always half full.
I am here to stand up for you, the people of District 74th and the State of Illinois.
Elect me, and let's repair Illinois' foundation together! Elect me, and let's help the USA out by fixing Illinois.
August "Gus" Junior, mayor of Atkinson, is the Democrat candidate for Illinois House District 74.
